American Airlines is set to introduce new benefit selections for its Million Miler members, offering choices such as Loyalty Points, gifted status, systemwide upgrades, and bonus miles at various lifetime mileage thresholds. The move marks an enhancement to the program, giving frequent flyers more flexibility in how they use their accrued benefits.
However, industry analysts note that American's lifetime status offerings still trail those of key competitors. United's Global Services threshold and Delta's 360° milestone provide more exclusive perks, while Alaska Airlines gives members a head start on annual status points, making their top-tier status more attainable.
Despite the improvements, American's program may not fully close the gap with rivals, leaving some elite travelers to weigh their options when choosing a primary carrier. The airline has not announced when the new benefit choices will take effect.
