Delta Air Lines is reportedly preparing to restart daily nonstop service between Seattle and Tokyo Narita in 2027, marking its return to a route it abandoned seven years ago. The move is widely seen as a direct challenge to Alaska Airlines, which currently operates the only nonstop link between the Pacific Northwest hub and Narita.
Delta previously flew the Seattle-Narita route until 2020, when it consolidated its Tokyo operations at Haneda Airport. The carrier has since expanded its transpacific network, but the planned Narita return signals a strategic push to capture more business and leisure traffic from Seattle, a key market for Alaska.
Industry analysts note that Delta's entry could intensify competition on the route, potentially affecting fares and schedules. Alaska Airlines has not commented on the report. If confirmed, the new service would give travelers more options and pressure Alaska to defend its foothold on one of its most important international routes.
